Encourage your child to read independently or with you every day.
Perhaps assist your child in choosing a nonfiction book.
Discuss the reading selection with your child.
It is a nice way to end the evening together.

The focus of this reading class is to have students practice a variety of reading strategies and writing skills to demonstrate the ability to form a general understanding, develop interpretations, make reader/text connections, and examine the content and structure of various types of reading selections.
Students will answer open-ended questions using the 'SLAMS' format. Please ensure your child uses this fomat with most homework written assignments.
S = Sentences!
Write in complete sentences.
L = Line Length = Answer Length.
Always write a topic sentence and a concluding sentence.
A = Answer the question!
Highlight and answer ALL parts of the question.
M = Mechanics are important!
Edit spelling, punctuation, capitalization, grammar, and word
choices.
S = Support your answers with details from the selection.
It is fine to add opinions, but you must include information from
the selection.
A good answer SLAMS the question!
