"We will never know to what heights we may soar,

Until first we spread our wings!"

Swift Middle School Motto

Dear Students, Parents and Families,

The first marking period has drawn to a close and our students have settled into the Swift daily routine nicely.  Many events have taken place here at Swift as the students get into the full swing of life in middle school. Fall sports have finished a successful season and winter sports are about to begin.  In addition, many clubs are underway and our music concerts are on the horizon.

Our Red and Orange Teams are holding food drives to assist our community and to build a sense of citizenship and civic awareness.  The eighth grade Crimson Team is traveling to Boston for the day and the Evergreen Team has a series of events planned when they travel to Springfield.  In the meantime, our PTSO hosted a well-attended Fun Night and our World Language Club sponsored both  a successful "Three Language Night" as well as the ever-popular "International Haunted House".

Upcoming events include a Laser Show sponsored by the PTSO for all students on November 26th, and a presentation by 'Girls,Inc.' for all sixth grade girls in early December.  Keep in mind our upcoming vacations as well...There will be a single-session day on Wednesday, November 26th followed by two days at home to commemorate the Thanksgiving Day holiday.  Our winter break begins with a single-session day on December 23rd and students will return to school on Monday, January 5, 2009.

In the meantime, please keep in mind that there are many staff members here at Swift to answer questions, give information and address concerns.  Please do not hesitate to contact us.  Our support staff, including our guidance counselors, nurse and school psychologists, can help with concerns both at school and at home, and the Team Leaders can answer academic concerns that may arise.

My primary responsibility here at Swift is to work with the sixth graders and seventh grade Blue and Navy Team students, while Mr. Andronowitz supports the eighth graders and members of the Yellow Team.  I am looking forward to meeting and supporting all of our students and families throughout the year.

I can be reached at Swift at 945-4830 from 8 AM until 4 PM each day or through my web site at mangionema@watertownctschools.org .  Please feel free to contact me at any time.
