STUDENT ACTIVITIES

An important phase of student life at the middle school is the student’s social development. Throughout the year, school parties, picnics, dances, special assemblies, and class trips are scheduled. These functions are a privilege and the school discipline code applies.

The eighth grade takes a trip to Washington, D. C. in the spring. This trip is a three-day educational tour of our nation’s capital. To attend this trip, behavior, attendance, tardiness, and academic grades are strongly considered.

Some student activities may include the French Club, Hacky Sack Club and the following:

The Art Club allows students the opportunity to explore creative self-expression, and work on school related projects.

The Homework Club is offered to all students. The club is sponsored by our school counselors and meets after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Academic teachers and parents may recommend students to take advantage of this opportunity.

An Honor Society, whose members are selected primarily on high academic achievement, is very active at Swift. To be nominated for this organization, a student must make first honors 3 of the four terms or marking periods, not fall below second honors at any time, be in good standing (behavior) and must meet the criteria designed by the National Junior Honor Society.

The Leo Club is available to all Swift students. Members volunteer for service activities that benefit the local communities.

A School Store is open during "K" periods and during some lunch waves. The school store offers school supplies and some novelty items for sale.

School Newspaper Club allows students to learn to organize, editorialize, interview, and write about the happenings at Swift as well as outside current events.

Peer Advocates are selected by faculty advisors and then trained in the Natural Helper Methods. They are trained to refer students with more serious issues.

Peer Mediators are selected and trained to help students resolve conflicts through peaceful means within the school setting. They always work under the direction of a faculty advisor.

Swift has a Student Council which helps plan activities for the school. A board of officers is elected by the entire student body. Beyond the social activities planned by the Student Council, members are encouraged to bring suggestions for improvement of the school to the attention of the principal for discussion.

The Yearbook Club gives interested students the opportunity to work on a project that will always be of sentimental value to those who attend Swift. Both seventh and eighth grade students are eligible for this activity.
