STUDENT ACTIVITIES
An important phase of student life at the middle school is the student’s social development.
Throughout the year, school parties, picnics, dances, special assemblies, and class trips are scheduled.
These functions are a privilege and the school discipline code applies.
The eighth grade takes a trip to Washington, D. C. in the spring. This trip is a three-day educational tour of our nation’s capital. To attend this trip, behavior, attendance, tardiness, and academic grades are strongly considered.
ORGANIZATIONS YOU CAN BE SELECTED TO JOIN
An Honor Society, whose members are selected primarily on high academic achievement, is very active at Swift. To be nominated for this organization, a student must make first honors 3 of the four terms or marking periods, not fall below second honors at any time, be in good standing (behavior) and must meet the criteria designed by the National Junior Honor Society.
Peer Advocates are selected by faculty advisors and then trained in the Natural Helper Methods. They are trained to refer students with more serious issues.
Peer Mediators are selected and trained to help students resolve conflicts through peaceful means within the school setting. They always work under the direction of a faculty advisor.
CLUBS YOU CAN JOIN
The Chess Club gives all students the opportunity to learn the game of Chess. The game makes students have to think and use strategies to win.
The Game Club offers the opportunity for the Swift students to socialize, get together to play a game in the Library and just have fun.
International Haunted House is an opportunity for students to explore world languegues while enjoying the theme of a haunted house. This is an opportunity for all students to work with the world langues in an after school setting.
In the World Language Clubs the students are exposed to the World Languages: Spanish, French and Latin.
The Leo Club is available to all Swift students. Members volunteer for service activities that benefit the local communities.
School Newspaper Club allows students to learn to organize, editorialize, interview, and write about the happenings at Swift as well as outside current events.
Science Club is an opportunity for students to explore Environmental Science and careers in the science field.
Swift has a Student Council which helps plan activities for the school.Beyond the social activities planned by the Student Council, members are encouraged to bring suggestions for improvement of the school to the attention of the principal for discussion.
The Yearbook Club gives interested students the opportunity to work on a project that will always be of sentimental value to those who attend Swift. Both seventh and eight grade students are eligible for this activity. Lego League
A School Store is open during “K” periods and during some lunch waves. The school store offers school supplies and some novelty items for sale.
